When you add an Amazon connector, a generic “Amazon” category will automatically be created with a set of basic/default mappings that help facilitate product sync. This generic Amazon category was created because Amazon required sellers to create separate templates to categorize their products and since Amazon has so many categories, they created the generic Amazon template to map all the common fields; such as price, quantity, SKU, etc. However, Amazon has deprecated the category specific templates and replaced them with custom flat files. A custom flat file combines all the separate category specific templates into one, but still relies on the generic “Amazon” category to set the common fields.
